Frequently asked questions
How old may a car be at import?
The year of first registration may be at most 10 years before the year of clearance. Older vehicles and those below Euro 4 may not be imported.
What is not included in the total?
Transport to the border is part of the customs value – add it to the purchase price. Registration, plates, insurance and the technical inspection come after clearance.
How reliable are the figures?
They are calculated from the TARIK customs tariff, as of 01/01/2026. Customs sets the customs value, which can be higher than the invoice – have the amount confirmed by Kosovo Customs before you buy.
Do I need homologation?
Not for new cars with a certificate of conformity (CoC), and not for used cars that were registered in the EU, Switzerland or Norway. If the car comes directly from another country, such as the USA, Korea or the United Kingdom, it needs individual homologation.
What does registration cost after clearance?
According to the Interior Ministry fee decision (2020), the first registration of a car costs €105: registration, registration certificate, plates, eco tax and road tax. After that €75 every year. Technical inspection and compulsory insurance come on top.
