The price in the listing is not the price you pay. A car from Germany also carries duty, excise and VAT — and those follow engine size, age and fuel, not the price alone.
Two examples, calculated with the current table:
| Car | Price | Duty | Excise | VAT | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Golf 1.6 diesel, 8 years | 8.000 € | 800 € | 780 € | 1.724 € | 11.304 € |
| Passat 2.0 diesel, 5 years | 12.000 € | 1.200 € | 650 € | 2.493 € | 16.343 € |
Guide values, as of 2024-05-10.
The simple rule: the older the car and the bigger the engine, the higher the excise. Cars over ten years old cannot be imported at all.
Every duty-unpaid listing shows the calculated total. If you want to work it out yourself, use the customs calculator.
