Winter for drivers in Kosovo starts on 15 November and lasts until 15 March. In that period the car must be equipped, whatever the weather looks like that day.
- Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes: winter tyres on all four wheels — or summer tyres with at least four millimetres of tread.
- Snow chains are part of the required equipment and must be carried.
- Tyres marked M+S, MS or M&S are recommended.
- Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes: winter tyres on the driven wheels, chains as well.
The fine is €40 for individuals and €100–300 for companies. A set of chains costs less than the fine — and far less than an evening in the snow without them.
